Biden’s Idiocy is a Gift to Trump

Biden is an idiot.
Not that I had any respect for Joe Biden’s intelligence, or any other of his traits, prior to this week, but for him to get called out for basically the same idiot thing that everyone was losing their shit about when Trump was caught doing it is headslappingly idiotic.
To summarize, classified top-secret files were found in Biden’s former private office, then in his home, from when he was vice-president. The situation closely mirrors that in which Trump was caught having done the same thing. There are differences in the two stories, among them being that, based on reports, Trump took many more documents, and he had them moved across several states to stash them in the basement of his shitty resort, and he fought like a petulant child to keep them, prompting an FBI raid. That aside, and not speculating as to who hoarded the more sensitive materials, the situations, the crimes, are essentially the same.
None of this is to say that Biden is as bad as Trump or that Trump isn’t actually that bad. Being stabbed in the gut is still better than being shot in the chest. But, when something like this comes out, when someone like Biden is found to have committed the same crime as Trump, it makes it harder to effectively criticize Trump, let alone prosecute him. In the unlikely event that Trump ever does face criminal trial, his lawyers will be able to argue that he didn’t do anything that other presidents, like Biden, did. They can make the argument that he’s not actually that bad. Hell, he was following a precedent.
It’s hard to support the supposed opposition when they’re doing the same bad or stupid things as the enemy. How would the justice department build a case against a former president for the same thing that was done by the current president who was a former vice president at the time of his crime? Besides being confusing, it’s hypocritical. Biden has no more aversion to hypocrisy than the majority of politicians, but on this particular issue, there’s little to no ground for his administration or its supporters to stand on.
In the end, do I actually give a shit that either of these idiots stole classified government documents? Not really. Neither do most people, I’d bet. It doesn’t actually affect us. Even the small possibility that it could have affected isn’t that convincing. The national security establishment (military, spies, and murderers) labels every damn thing as top-secret, and while it isn’t right that a former president or vice-president should own it, and we the people should, much of it is inconsequential bullshit that would bore most folks narcoleptic.
Presidents and vice presidents, former and current, politicians of any kind, are wont to do some corrupt, illegal, or just generally shady shit. Far worse things than improper handling of classified documents. Grasping onto Trump’s illegal document hoarding as the thing that would finally put him behind bars was silly. He did such worse things, and none of them stuck. He incited an attempted coup, and it didn’t matter. A less serious crime is unlikely to be the nail in his coffin, especially when his stupid successor did the same damn thing.
